SUMMER OF LOVE: Final Appeal for Free Concert

Organizers of a hoped-for 50th Anniversary Summer of Love free concert in San Francisco make their final appeal today (Thursday) morning.

A hearing will be held by the city's Recreation and Parks Commission to re-consider their permit for a multi-act show at Golden Gate Park.

As we reported back in February, San Francisco officials haven't approved plans for a free concert with musicians such as Jefferson Starship's David Freiberg and Jesse Colin Young. Organizer Boots Hughson told us, "For the city to just say 'no' to us is not only disrespectful, it's a very foolish thing for the city to do."

He seemed especially troubled by the apparent message that only corporations are allowed to use Golden Gate Park. "For some reason, the city lost sight of all this. They're just seeing the money signs -- the dollars in their pocket and who's generating the most."
