ROCK HALL: Welcome to the Machine

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will unveil a new exhibit next Wednesday (July 11th).

Part of the Machine: Rock & Pinball is described as an “interactive exhibit that showcases rock-themed, playable pinball machines and combines them with merchandise and artifacts to explore the artistic portrayal of artists and bands.”

Once banned as a form of gambling, pinball made a comeback in the late ’60s thanks in large part to The Who’s “Pinball Wizard.” The exhibit includes the classic “Wizard” and “Tommy” pinball machines, along with the acoustic guitar Pete Townshend used to compose “Pinball Wizard” and several other songs from Tommy.

The display also includes Alice Cooper’s new “Nightmare Castle” pinball machine along with many of his stage props, including nooses, guillotines and an electric chair. And machines and memorabilia from Elton John, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, KISS, Elvis Presley, AC/DC, Metallica and Guns n’ Roses.

The exhibit runs through next spring. For the first few days, museum visitors can enjoy free pinball play.
