Fans of the singer Jimmy Buffett added to the woes of Dominican Republic tourism.
Two months ago, more than 100 so-called Parrotheads traveled to D.R. Half of them fell ill. One of the Buffett fans from the Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association(COPA) lost 14 pounds due to “crippling diarrhea.”
A few of the victims told a similar story to others who became deadly sick: they drank the liquor from the hotel room mini-bar. At least seven Americans have died in recent months while traveling to the Dominican Republic.
The Hotel Riu Palace Macao denied in a statement being the source, (quote) “We are aware that three guests with a possible case of gastroenteritis. This occurred after an external activity of this group (COPA) outside the hotel.” (KFOR-TV, Oklahoma)
