ELTON JOHN: Rips Rock Hall

Elton John is not a fan of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Inducted in 1994, he writes in his just published memoir, Me, that he doesn't see the "point" of it.

"I loved the original idea of it -- honoring the true pioneers of rock and roll, the artists who laid the path in the fifties that the rest of us followed."

He goes onto say that since then it's nothing but a "big televised ceremony" that is "about getting enough big names involved each year to put bums on the seats."

Elton almost didn't make it to the stage of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York to collect his statuette. He walked out four times -- going back to his hotel -- before finally returning.

Another artist who is not a fan of the Hall is Suzi Quatro. She tells NME, "It really is remiss of them. How can they not have me in there? I was the first [female rock star]. And that’s what they stand for. It’s dumb of them but maybe they’ll fix it... I’ve got enough awards to keep me going, but I only get annoyed because it’s just disrespectful not to honor the first female to have success. It’s just stupid to me! I’ve stopped trying to understand it!”

Perhaps Suzi is referring to being the first female "rock star" to play an instrument and sing. There were other successful females before her, most notably Janis Joplin.
